Houston Cougar Soccer Handed Tough Loss From Conference Opponent Charlotte

After a deadlocked score at the half, the Cougar women's soccer team gradually let the Niners take control of the game ended their first Conference game with a loss. The Niners scored four second half goals to clinch the win.
The first goal for Charlotte was scored by Mikel Casey at 48:42 from 25 feet out on assists from Abby Allison and Leslie Canales. About ten minutes later, defender Shannon Roberto found a streaking Jill Hayes who then drove past a defender and fired a shot to give the 49ers a 2-0 lead at 58:36. The 49ers' third goal of the match came at 70:23 when senior Dawn Geyer scooped up a pass from Jennie Leeder and shot the ball low across the goal mouth into the net. The scoring for Charlotte was concluded when Casey sent a long serve forward to sophomore Haley Devine, who turned and found Christy Johnson shot a hard one into the netting with only 40 seconds remaining in the match at 89:20.
Seven shots were taken by the Cougars none reaching the comfort of the net. Three shots were taken by Nicole Aubuchon and Carrie Evans, Kara Bullinger, Anne Gasser and Jennifer Allen took one shot a piece.
Houston falls to 1-3-1 overall, 0-1-0 in C-USA. The Cougars will take on another North Carolina opponent on Sunday in Greenville at East Carolina University. The game will take place at 1:30pm. The Cougars will return home next weekend for two more Conference match-ups versus St. Louis and Marquette on Friday and Sunday.
