Houston, Texas - The University of Houston volleyball team continues its brief homestand and, more importantly, opens its Conference USA season when it plays host to Tulane in a 7:30 p.m. match Friday at Hofheinz Pavilion.
The Cougars (3-5) come into the match on the heels of a tough 3-2 loss to Texas A&M on Tuesday to open their home season.
Despite the loss, head coach Bill Walton, now in his 16th year with the UH program, and the fans enjoyed several highlights. Senior Jennifer Wittenburg blasted a season-high 31 kills to lead the offensive attack for the sixth 30-kill performance of her Cougar career.
Jenny Tanneberger added 22 kills while Jane Anne Karasek tallied 17 kills. Gabi Carbone led all players in the match with 22 digs.
History seems to favor the Cougars who have posted a 14-1 all-time record while dropping only seven games against the Green Wave.
Tulane comes into the match as winners of five of its last six matches, including a 3-0 win over South Alabama on Tuesday. Britney Hurst leads the Green Waves with 169 kills and is second on the squad.
