For the first time since the 1963 season the University of Houston has postponed a football game. Dr. Arthur K. Smith, President and Chancellor of the UH System, and the president of the University of Georgia, Dr. Michael Adams, have mutually agreed not to play the game in respect to the country's national mourning.
The UH contest with the University of Georgia was originally scheduled for 1 p.m. EDT this Saturday, September 15, in Athens.
In the fall of 1963 the Cougars' scheduled game with the University of Louisville on November 23 was canceled after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy the day before in Dallas. The UH-UL game was rescheduled and played on December 14 of that year, with Houston claiming a 21-7 win.
A makeup date for the Cougar-Bulldog game has not been set and could be released at a later date.
