Cougars Shut Out East Tennessee State 8-0

Houston, Texas - The University of Houston softball team slugged six hits and posted eight runs to retire Eastern Tennessee 8-0 in just five innings in its first game of the UH Invitational Softball Tournament Friday afternoon at San Jacinto Field. The win improves the Cougars to 4-5 overall.
The Cougars scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first for freshman starting pitcher Ali McDougall and then exploded for six runs in the bottom of the third to increase the lead. McDougall, who recorded her second career win, allowed just three hits, no walks, and struck out six working 5.0 innings.
Offensively, Houston was paced by freshman catcher Arelis Ferreris who finished the day with two hits to go along with one RBI. McDougall also had two hits for UH.
Houston will next face Northwestern State on Saturday, February 17, to continue tournament action at the UH Invitational. First pitch with the Demons will be at 10:00 a.m. from San Jacinto Field of the San Jacinto South campus.
