After averaging 22.3 points and 6.7 rebounds per game and leading the University of Houston Lady Cougars to a 3-0 record last week, including the Roger L. White Invitational title, sophomore guard Chandi Jones has earned Conference USA Player of the Week honors for the week of December 3.
Jones shares C-USA's weekly honor with DePaul's Lenae Williams, who averaged 28 points, 6.7 rebounds and 4.0 steals per game while also charging the Blue Demons to three straight wins.
In addition to registering 20-plus points in each of Houston's three games, Jones recorded the Lady Cougars' first double-double performance of the year with a season-high 24 points and 12 boards in Houston's win over LaSalle on Nov. 30. She led all four of the participating teams in the Roger L. White Invitational with a combined 44 points and 19 rebounds and was named to the All-Tournament Team as well as the tournament's Most Valuable Player.
In addition, Jones scored the 500th point of her young collegiate career with her second basket in the first half of Houston's win over LaSalle. She has now tallied 540 total points through the first 26 games of her career, an average of 20.8 per contest.
The award is the second such honor for Jones, who was also named the C-USA Player of the Week for December 4, 2000.
