Milwaukee, Wisconsin - The Cougars were defeated by the Marquette Golden Eagles by a score of 2-1 in 112:09 minutes of play on Wednesday. The Golden Eagles now advance to the semi-final round of the Conference USA Tournament to be played on Thursday at 7:30 against Charlotte. The Cougars finish the season 8-9-1 overall.
The first goal of the game was scored by Marquette's Kate Gordon assisted from deep in the pocket by Carolyn Klopp and a short header from Ashley Spakowitz. The Cougars did not let up pushing the ball into their territory repeatedly and taking a total nine shots in the game.
Houston ran the ball up the field and almost lost the ball out of bounds at their goal line when senior Jennifer Allen chipped the ball into the eager Nikki Hawkins for the goal. The score remained 1-1 to the end of regulation which brought on a pair of double overtimes 15 minutes each in length. The first period passed scoreless, but in the 112:09 minute of play, the Golden Eagles Diana Detrie served the ball to teammate Carolyn Klopp who rolled the ball past the Cougar defenders for the score and the win. The final score, 2-1.
