HOUSTON, Texas - No. 5 DePaul upset No. 1 Louisville, 3-1 (30-21, 22-30, 30-22,30-21) in the semifinals of the 2001 Healthy Choice C-USA Volleyball Tournament on Saturday at Hofheinz Pavilion. The Blue Demons, who posted a 3-1 win over No. 4 Houston in the quarterfinals last night, advance to their first C-USA Tournament final in school history against No. 2 Louisville on Sunday at 2 p.m. The upset marks the first time since the 1997 C-USA Tournament that the No. 1 seed did not advance to the championship game.
"It was all about senior leadership. They were not going to be denied," said DePaul head coach Dawn Dockstader. "This team has been focused and so poised throughout the tournament. What I love about this team is that they have never backed down. It was an incredible win for us, but we still have another game."
Stephanie Bishop and Katie Engel led the Blue Demons, both posting 16 kills and 11 digs. Melissa Nordine added a match-high 19 digs, while Laura Marks notched seven total blocks.
For Cincinnati, Bonita Wise posted a match-high 19 kills for a .378 hitting percentage. Trish Ladusaw led defensively, posting 17 digs, while Julie DuPont posted seven total blocks.
