Cougar Tennis Team Advances in Quarterfinals of Southwest Championships Tournament

Fort Worth, Texas - The woman's tennis team's Jen Baccarani and Sarah Borwell have advanced into the semifinals and finals of the Omni Hotels Southwest Championships held on the campus of TCU in Fort Worth, Texas. Baccarani is playing in the semifinals of the back draw after defeating Beverly Dawson in the quarterfinals yesterday and will play Amy McIlhany on Monday morning at 8:30am.
Baccarani and Borwell made the quarterfinals in doubles before defaulting to concentrate on the finals round in singles.
Sarah Borwell was the third seed overall in the tournament and has beaten six opponents to make it to the Finals. She defeated Marjorie Terburgh from Texas A&M 6-2: 6-2 in the third round, then defeated TCU's Paty Aburto 6-3: 6-4 to move into the quarterfinals. Saturday she beat Vida Mulic from Baylor and in the semi's yesterday knocked out Vladka Uhlirova for her spot in the Finals today. She is scheduled to play Katja Kovac from Baylor on Monday at 10:00am. With her advancement to the finals, Borwell qualified for the Rolex National Indoor Tournament to be held in Dallas November 8-11. This is one of the three major national events of the season. This is an invite tournament only, qualifications for the invitation are: You must finish in the top two of one of the regional tournaments of that season. This is a very prestigious and exclusive event.
The Cougars are also scheduled to play in the Conference USA Fall Tournament November 9-11 in Fort Worth. This will be the final fall matches and the Lady Cougars will resume play in the spring on January 26 versus SW Texas and UT Pan American at home on the Cougar's varsity courts.
