FORT WORTH, Texas - The University of Houston women's volleyball team looks to return to the .500 mark when it meets Conference USA rival TCU in a 7 p.m. match Saturday.
The Cougars, who will be playing their only match during a 12-day span, currently stand at 7-8 overall and are in fifth place in the league with a 4-2 mark.
UH rose quickly through the league standings last weekend, sweeping a pair of C-USA matches against Saint Louis and Memphis. Against the Billikens, the Cougar duo of Jennifer Wittenburg and Jenny Tanneberger combined to post 32 kills, four more than the entire Saint Louis team.
Wittenburg, UH's lone selection to the C-USA All-Preseason team, should continue to rise higher in the record book as she needs only six kills against the Horned Frogs to surpass the 1,100-kill mark in her UH career. This season, the Houston native has blasted a team-best 334 kills and also leads the team with 210 digs.
While Wittenburg has been supplying the offensive power, Tanneberger has emerged as the team's most consistent performer. The San Antonio, Texas, native has led the Cougars in hitting in 11 matches this season and has hit the .300 mark in 10 of UH's 15 matches this season.
Although conference rivals, Saturday's match will be only the second-ever meeting between the Cougars and TCU. In 1998, UH walked away with a 3-2 win during the Cougars' second match of its own Houston Invitational.
TCU (5-11, 2-4 C-USA) comes into the contest on a two-match winning streak after defeating Saint Louis and Southwest Texas State in a non-conference match Tuesday. Marci King leads the Horned Frogs with 241 kills and 170 digs and topped TCU with 17 kills earlier this week.
