University of Houston Athletics Director Chet Gladchuk announced two additions to the staff on January 2. Douglas Archie was named Associate Athletics Director for compliance while Jeff Cook was selected as the Assistant Athletic Director for Equipment Room Operations.
Archie joins the Cougar staff from the NCAA office in Indianapolis where he was an administrator for enforcement and membership services. Prior to that he was an Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance at the University of North Dakota. Archie monitored and ensured the university's bylaws and conference rules and he served as a liaison between the athletic department and faculty. He also instituted a recruiting manual and handbook that better acquainted the coaches and student-athletes with NCAA bylaws. A native of Ontario and graduate of York University in Toronto, Archie earned a Masters in Athletic Administration from Ohio University and a law degree from the University of Toledo.
Cook served as the head equipment manager at the University of South Florida the past four years. He will oversee the equipment purchase, distribution and inventory needs as well as the individual team managers for each of the 16 Cougar varsity athletics programs. A 1991 graduate of Kansas State, Cook also worked four years as the head equipment manager at Illinois State and as an assistant for the Sacramento franchise in the Canadian Football League.
