"Going into the second ball game (at Louisiana State University) and the second practice week, we're trying to intensify the practice reps with them (young receivers), the intensity of the reps. We had a good, hard practice today and intensified things a little bit by going more full-speed work," said Dimel following this afternoon's practice. "We're definitely trying to get our passing game up to par with losing Orlando and Kendall by bringing in these younger receivers along.
"We feel like our younger receivers played real well in the first ball game and have been encouraged because they have been practicing so well," he continued.
Comfortable with the receivers' level of preparation and readiness going into Saturday's game at LSU, the coaching staff has also worked on getting the defense ready for LSU, who is armed with a passing-frenzy offense led by quarterback Josh Booty.
"The key to this ball game (vs LSU) is who's going to be able to play well defensively, so our defense is going to have to keep us in the ball game, create some turnovers and make some big plays," said Dimel. " We've been stressing that all week as well.
"We're going to have to defend the pass well and we've been working on trying to do that and trying to create some turnovers with some interceptions."
Other notes include the news that Williams' knee injury is not as severe as originally thought and he could be back in the starting lineup in as soon as two weeks. Iglesias, who sprained his ankle, is a long-term injury and may not see action for six to eight weeks.
