Houston Keeps C-USA Tournament Hopes Alive

Houston, Texas - The University of Houston women's soccer team defeated Conference USA rival UAB by a score of 2-1 Friday night in Robertson Stadium. With this win, the Cougars are one step closer to ensuring a C-USA Tournament birth. UH now improves to 8-8-1 overall and 4-5-1 in league play. The Blazers drop to 3-12-2 overall and 2-7-1 in conference.
Sophomore Ashley Fortenberry scored the Cougars' first goal of the night at the 10:40 mark of the first half. Fortenberry then assisted on the next UH goal passing to junior Kara Bullinger who connected on a header at 14:33 to make the score 2-0.
Jennifer Calalang scored for UAB at the 40:14 minute mark on an assist from Adrienne Suffridge, but Houston's defense proved to be too much for the Blazers. Houston held UAB to just one shot in the second half for its eighth victory of the season.
The Cougars will play host to Memphis in its last match of the regular season on Sunday, October 22. The C-USA match begins at 1 p.m. in Robertson Stadium.
