Barrett joined the Cougars prior to the 2019-20 season as Director of Recruiting Operations and will take on assistant coaching duties where she works primarily with the Houston post players.
The Jackson, Mississippi, native played professionally for three years following her collegiate career in Baton Rouge. During her time at LSU, she helped lead the Tigers to three NCAA Tournament berths while scoring over 1,500 points and grabbing more than 800 rebounds.
She was named the 2009 Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Year and was a two-time first team all-SEC selection. A WBCA Honorable Mention All-America honoree after both her junior and senior seasons, she was the seventh player in program history to be selected in the first round of the WNBA draft, taken 10th overall by the Washington Mystics in 2012.
She was selected as LSU’s 2016 SEC Women’s Legend and was honored with other legends from each of the SEC teams at the SEC tournament that year. Professionally, Barrett played one season in Israel and two more in Australia before returning stateside to work with the LSU program.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in sports administration in 2011 with an emphasis in business commerce. She earned her master’s degree in sports management in 2016.
Prior to joining the Cougars, Barrett enjoyed coaching stops at Louisiana Tech and Florida International as an Assistant Coach. During the 2018-19 season, Barrett helped coach All-CUSA First Team selection Kierra Anthony to one of the most productive seasons of her career, ranking first in the C-USA and fourth nationally in scoring.
Barrett coached at Florida International, after spending two seasons at her alma mater, LSU as Director of Player Personnel. In Baton Rouge she handled non-conference scheduling, academic relations and alumni relations.
LaSondra lives in Houston with her dog Banks and is a native of Jackson, Mississippi.
