Jacob Wonders

Jacob Wonders joined the University of Houston in June 2024 and serves as the Director of NCAA Certification. In this role, he reviews and certifies eligibility for every student-athlete each semester, performs initial and transfer eligibility evaluations, and assists with NCAA reporting.
Prior to joining Houston, Wonders served as the Director of Academic Research and Effectiveness at Houston Christian University (HCU), where he was the lead for institutional research and governmental reporting.
Wonders’ career has spanned over twenty-five years in higher education and athletics. Initially, he coached college basketball for fifteen years between Lamar University, Lewis-Clark State College, San Jacinto College, Houston Baptist University (now Houston Christian) and Panola College. He then transitioned to athletic administration, working in student-athlete academic roles at HBU and Texas A&M before serving five years as the Associate Athletic Director for Compliance & Academics at Houston Baptist.
Wonders graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University. He earned his master’s degree in kinesiology from Lamar University.
Jacob and his wife, Caren, have two sons.
