Before Houston, Underwood spent two years at TCU as a graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach, primarily working with the 2022 National Finalist football program, as well as the cross country and baseball teams.
In 2021, Underwood worked with SMU football as an intern strength coach.
From 2018-2021, Underwood served as an assistant strength and conditioning and running backs coach at Lewisville High School in Lewisville, Texas, where he assisted with responsibilities for program design and implementation of strength, condition and nutrition programs. Underwood also helped with women’s soccer, baseball and basketball.
While coaching on the high school level, Underwood started his own business, Mach 5 Sports, in Dallas, Texas. His company’s motive was to improve athletes' sports performance. His company worked with various high school, collegiate and professional levels, developing training plans and sports performance programs.
In 2010, Underwood served as head strength and conditioning coach and varsity running back coach at Richardson Canyon Creek Academy.
Underwood started as a strength coach at Michigan, assisting the director of strength and conditioning with the daily operations for men’s football, basketball and hockey.
Underwood holds an NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists (CSCS) certification and a USA Weightlifting Level-1 certification.
Prior to his career in strength and conditioning, Underwood spent time in NFL Training Camps with the New York Giants and Buffalo Bills as a running back.
Underwood also played football for four years at Michigan, where he received his undergraduate degree in business administration and African American studies. He later earned his master’s degree in liberal arts from TCU.
