HOUSTON, Texas (Oct. 17) - The University of Houston womens volleyball team failed to hold off a DePaul comeback and suffered its first Conference USA loss of the season to the Blue Demons by the score of three games to two Sunday afternoon in Hofheinz Pavilion. 
The Cougars coasted to a pair of wins in the first two games 15-8 and 15-5, but DePaul came back to take the match by winning the next three games 15-6, 15-11 and 15-8. The UH loss ended the teams 10-match win streak and marked the Cougars first C-USA defeat of the season after starting league play with eight-straight wins.
Four DePaul players posted double-figure kills, including sophomore outside hitter Stephanie Bishop who had a team-high 19 kills and 32 defensive digs. Freshman outside hitter Lara Clarkson added 18 kills, a .350 hitting percentage and 23 digs as the Blue Demons won their fifth match in a row to improve to 13-9 on the year and 6-3 in C-USA play.
Houston was paced by junior outside hitter Bobbi Stewarts career-high 29 kills. The standout from nearby Dobie High School also registered a .333 hitting percentage, 11 digs and five blocks. The Cougars fell to 13-6 overall and 8-1 in conference. UH will next be on the road for a C-USA match against National Division rival South Florida on Thursday night, October 21. First serve with the Bulls will be at 7:30 p.m. in Tampa, Florida.
