New Orleans, LA (Sept. 26) -- The University of Houston volleyball team held off a late Tulane charge to claim a three games to none sweep of Conferece USA rival Tulane Sunday afternoon at Fogleman Arena in New Orleans. With the 15-12, 15-7, 17-15 victory, the Cougars won their fourth-straight match and recorded their first 3-0 win of the season. After falling behind 9-5 in game one the Cougars used a 10-3 rally to claim a 15-12 win. Later in game three Houston held off a Tulane rally before finally putting the match away on its third try at 16-15. The Cougars were led by senior Jillian King's 16 kills, .583 hitting percentage, four service aces and five blocks. Junior hitter Jennifer Wittenburg added 13 kills and six defensive digs as the Cougars improved to 7-5 on the season and 3-0 in C-USA action.
Tulane was led by Kim Sentmore's 15 kills and 10 digs. The Green Wave fell to 5-6 overall and 0-3 in league play. Houston will next be on the road in Dallas for a non-conference match against SMU on Wednesday, September 29. First serve from Moody Coliseum in Dallas will be at 7:00 p.m.
