Frazier Posts Triple-DoubleHouston, TX (September 18) - The University of Houston volleyball team rallied and then hung on for a dramatic 3-2 win over Auburn Saturday afternoon in Hofheinz Pavilion.
With 13 kills, 15 defensive digs and 10 blocks, junior middle hitter Michelle Frazier posted her first career triple-double in leading the Cougars to a 12-15, 15-12, 15-13, 7-15, 19-17 victory. Frazier, a native of nearby Kingwood, Texas, hit for a .370 percentage and served a career-high five service aces as UH won its second match in three days to improve to 5-5.
Houston held a 2-1 edge after winning two of the first three games, but Auburn coasted to an easy 15-7 win in game four to force a fifth and deciding game. The Cougars had three chances to win the rally-scored game at 14-13, 15-14 and 16-15, but failed to convert each time. Auburn then took a lead 17-16 before UH rallied for two more points on a block and Tiger hitting error.
Four Cougars recorded double-figure kills in the match including Frazier, junior Stephanie Heiskell (17), senior Kristin Guidish (16) and junior Bobbi Stewart (12). Auburn's junior tandem of Brooke McCarley and Juanelle Hamilton led all players with 27 and 22 kills respectively. The Tigers fell to 8-3 after defeating South Florida on Friday night.
UH will next play Conference USA rivals Southern Miss and Tulane on the road on Friday and Sunday, September 24 and 26.
