HOUSTON, Texas (Mar. 4) -- The University of Houston women's tennis team snagged its second win in a row after stomping Oklahoma 7-2 on Saturday morning on the UH Varsity Courts. With that victory, the Lady Cougars now improve their season record to 5-6.
Led by the tandem of Galina Seliounina and Mette Sigmundstad, Houston swept the Sooners in doubles action 8-6, 8-6, and 9-8(5). Also for the Lady Cougars, the freshman duo of Annie Rapp and Karine Urbin continue to roll past the competition after registering their fourth doubles victory. The two are undefeated this spring season.
In singles, Houston faired extremely well winning five of its seven competitions. Lady Cougar newcomer, Jen Baccarani recorded her third straight win at the number four spot as she quickly disposed of Oklahoma's Jennie Hamilton 6-1, 6-2. Battlling at the number three and at the number six, UH's Joanna Cunliffe and Karine Urbin took their opponents to three sets, but emerged as winners beating Annette Bryntesson and Melissa Mendiela 6-1, 5-7, 10-8, and 7-5, 4-6, 11-9, respectivley.
The Cougars are back in action March 7 when they meet cross-town rival Rice at 1:30 p.m. on the Rice Courts.
