COLLEGE STATION, Texas (Nov. 9) - University of Houston tennis player senior Galina Seliounina [Minsk, Belarus] won five-straight matches before bowing out in the quarterfinal round to Jahnavi Parekh of Baylor, 7-5, 6-4 at the ITA Southwest Regional in College Station.
"I was very impressed with her [Seliounina] play," said Houston Head Coach Jennifer Hyde. "Galina is an extremely talented player and I think that she proved that with her performance in this tournament."
Seliounina also fared well in doubles competition, as she and partner, senior Mette Sigmundstad [Hafrsfjord, Norway] made it to the third round of the tournament before losing to Michelle Faucher and Ziva Grasic of Texas.
The tournament concludes the fall tennis schedule for the Cougars. The Cougars begin the regular season on Jan. 21 where they will face UTSA in a home opening match.
