The Cougars (7-10) came out of singles competition tied at three matches a piece. UH was led by junior Galina Seliounina, who won her match 6-4, 6-0. Seliounina was recently ranked as the No. 75 player in the nation, and she continued to play strong. The No. 85 ranked player, sophomore Sarah Borwell had an impressive showing defeating her opponent 6-2, 6-2. The most impressive performance came from senior Luciane Kelbert, who dominated her match, winning 6-1, 6-0.
Houston doubles then took control of the match, under the leadership of the #18 ranked team of Seliounina and Borwell. The tandem continued their impressive spring, winning their match 8-5. The Cougars secured the victory with senior Sarah Bolle and sophomore Joanna Cunliffe shutting out their opposition, 8-0. Freshman Kailey Meisinger and Kelbert earned a tough 8-6 victory allowing the Cougars to sweep doubles play.
Houston will next play UTEP Friday, April 9 at 2 p.m. at the UH Varsity Tennis Courts.
