Albuquerque, N.M. - The University of Houston women's tennis team finished 1-2 and in third place in the 10th Annual Lady Lobo Invite held on Mar. 5-7 in Albuquerque, N.M.
The Cougars dropped their opening match, 6-3, to the host school New Mexico on Friday before rebounding to win 6-3 over UC Irvine on Saturday. In UH's finale against Colorado on Sunday, Houston fell 6-3.
The Cougars received a great effort from junior Galina Seliounina who was victorious in all six matches she competed in. Seliounina triumphed in her three matches at the No. 2 singles and was 3-0 at No. 1 doubles with partner sophomore Sarah Borwell.
UH had a strong showing in doubles action, winning seven out of nine matches, including sweeping UC Irvine. In addition to Seliounina/Borwell, senior Sarah Bolle and sophomore Joanna Cunliffe also went 3-0 in doubles.
Houston (4-4) returns to action for a pair of home matches this week. The Cougars host Florida State on Wednesday, Mar. 10 at 2 p.m. and North Carolina on Friday, Mar. 12 at 2 p.m. Both dual matches are played at the UH Varsity Tennis Courts.
