LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Oct. 23,AP) -- Chris Redman threw for 397 yards and Lavell Boyd caught four touchdown passes as Louisville beat Houston 39-33 Saturday.
Redman was 27-of-53 and tied a season high with five touchdown passes for Louisville (5-3, 2-1 Conference USA). He became the NCAA's career leader in pass attempts late in the first half, breaking the record of 1,530 set by BYU's Ty Detmer from 1988-1991.
Ketric Sanford led Houston (4-3, 1-2) with 21 carries for 139 yards, including touchdowns of 5 and 72 yards. Jason McKinley was 20-of-37 for 255 yards and one interception.
The Cardinals, who trailed 24-18 at halftime, took their first lead on Redman's 7-yard pass to Boyd. Following a blocked punt on Houston's next possession, Redman hit Jackson with a 4-yard TD and Louisville led 32-24 with 5:04 remaining in the quarter.
Houston closed to 32-30 on Sanford's 5-yard run but failed on a 2-point conversion that would have tied the game with 2:55 left. Less than a minute later, Redman hit Boyd in the corner of the end zone from 25 yards for a 39-30 lead.
Mike Clark kicked a 35-yard field goal with five seconds to play but the Cougars couldn't convert the ensuing onside kick.
