Marvin Julich Jr. joined the University of Houston Department of Athletics as senior associate athletics director for external relations in July 2015.
He came to Houston after spending six years at Samford University in a variety of roles, the last as the Bulldogs' Senior Associate Athletic Director/Chief Operating Officer.
While at Samford, Julich oversaw the management of the department's marketing, communications, licensing, ticket operations, facilities, equipment and event operations while assisting in the strategic planning, budgeting and implementation of the department's strategic goals.
He served as the Bulldogs' baseball sport administrator and was responsible for managing all capital projects while assisting in the solicitation of major gifts. Julich was also instrumental in the Bulldogs' football scheduling during his time in Birmingham.
Julich was promoted to his final role at Samford after serving two years as the department's Executive Director of Athletics for Development and Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Affairs. In those roles he was responsible for all annual giving programs while increasing corporate partnership revenue by 51 percent.
He received his start at the Birmingham institution in 2009 as an Advancement Officer before being promoted to the Director of the Bulldog Club in 2010.
Prior to Samford, Julich spent two years as Vice President of National Sales for Huddle and two years as Regional Accounts Manager at Action Sport Media, where he sold over $2 million during his tenure, after four years as Assistant Athletics Director of Corporate Sponsors at Auburn.
With the Tigers, Julich designed and managed marketing and promotional plans for all 21 sport programs while developing and negotiating a new multi-media rights agreement, renegotiating a wireless contract and securing new corporate partners with revenue from the agreements totaling $1.475 million. Julich also managed all licensing opportunities for the department, coordinating with the university licensing and trademark director.
Julich made his start in college athletics in 1997 as the Assistant Director of Marketing at Ole Miss before serving as Executive Director of Host Media for three years, increasing media sales in his region by 38 percent, with more than $1.2 million in partnerships.
The Decatur, Ala., native received his bachelor's in business administration from Samford where he was a member of the school's baseball program before receiving a masters in sports administration from Saint Thomas University in Miami, Fla.
Julich and his wife, Angie, have three children, Lauren, Caroline and Trevor.
