Kyle Rogers joined the University of Houston Department of Athletics as assistant director for communications in August 2016. He will serve as the primary media contacts for the Cougars’ Volleyball and Softball programs.
Rogers came to the Cougars after working at Houston Baptist from 2015 to 2016. There, he worked with the HBU men's basketball, volleyball, beach volleyball, softball and golf programs, was the secondary football contact and oversaw the department's presence on social media.
Rogers joined the Stephen F. Austin Athletics Department in July 2013 after serving an internship in the media relations office as the primary contact for men’s basketball, soccer, baseball and women’s tennis. During his time in the department, Rogers covered the men’s basketball team during their 2014 Cinderella run to the third round of the NCAA Tournament.
As an intern at SFA, Rogers assisted with all 17 varsity sports, as well as updating the policy and procedures manual for the athletic department.
A graduate of Elkins High School in Missouri City, Texas, he originally went to SFA as a student-athlete. Rogers was a pitcher on the 2010 Lumberjack baseball team before being sidelined with shoulder injuries.
Rogers graduated cum laude from Stephen F. Austin in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in radio/TV and minor in journalism. As a senior, his sports show was recognized by the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association for excellence in collegiate journalism, and he was named outstanding student broadcaster for SFA.
He is a member of CoSIDA and the US Basketball Writers Association.
Rogers and his wife, Lauren, live in Houston.
