Dwight Allison joined the University of Houston Department of Athletics in March 18 as its performance nutritionist.
In that role, he oversees and coordinates the performance nutrition needs for all 17 Houston sport programs.
Allison supports the effort to optimize student-athlete's performance by further enhancing the nutrition education program, designing and coordinating training table and assists student-athletes with any special nutritional needs.
Before coming to Houston, Allison served for two seasons as Notre Dame's sports nutrition program director.
Prior to coming to Notre Dame, Allison spent two years on the Baylor University sports nutrition staff. He helped the Bears to a pair of Big 12 championships and trips to the Fiesta and Cotton Bowls. Allison also worked with Men’s and Women’s basketball, as well as the Track and Field programs.
Allison, a native of Lubbock, Texas, graduated from Texas Tech in 1999 with a bachelor’s degree in nutritional sciences. He added a master’s degree in nutritional sciences in 2000. Allison earned one letter as a sprinter on the Red Raiders track team (1995-97).
Allison became a registered dietitian in 2000 and worked predominantly in the health care industry until 2009. He then served as a head instructor and owner of the Waco Academy of Martial Arts – a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy – for five years. Allison ultimately achieved black belt status.
