Austen Hutchison joined the University of Houston Department of Athletics in July 2016 as assistant athletics trainer.
In that role, he work closely with Houston Baseball, supervising the evaluation of injuries, oversight of treatment and rehabilitation programs, coordination of physician care and scheduling of preseason physical examinations.
Hutchison, who is a native of Santa Ana, Calif., comes to Houston after spending the previous two seasons at Stephen F. Austin. There, he worked with the Lumberjack football and softball programs in 2014-15 and the baseball team during the 2015-16 season.
He also worked for two years as a contract athletics trainer with Nacogdoches Medical Center/Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital in 2014-16.
Hutchison began his career as a student assistant athletics trainer at TCU in 2010. He assisted in the sports medicine duties with the football, track and field, volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball programs.
He received his bachelor's degree from TCU in athletics training in 2014 and earned his master's degree from Stephen F. Austin in kinesiology in 2016.
Hutchison is a nationally certified athletics trainer and licensed athletics trainer in the state of Texas and a member of the National Athletics Training Association and Southwesst Athletics Trainers' Association.
