Houston pitchers Trey Cumbie (13th/390), Aaron Fletcher (14th/431) and Joey Pulido (32nd/956) were drafted on the final day of the 2018 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Wednesday.

Cumbie, a left-handed junior, was selected by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 13th Round at Pick No. 390 ÃÆ'À '¢ÃƒÆ’Æ'¢'¬¦ One round later, junior lefty Aaron Fletcher was selected by the Washington Nationals at Pick No. 431 in the 14th Round ÃÆ'À '¢ÃƒÆ’Æ'¢'¬¦ Senior righty Joey Pulido rounded out the drafted Cougars on the final day as he was taken by the Toronto Blue Jays at Pick No. 956 in the 32nd Round ÃÆ'À '¢ÃƒÆ’Æ'¢'¬¦ Houston has a running total of 149 drafted players and has had a Cougar drafted in 20 of the last 21 years ÃÆ'À '¢ÃƒÆ’Æ'¢'¬¦ Of the 145 players drafted all-time, 42 were drafted among the Top 10 rounds ÃÆ'À '¢ÃƒÆ’Æ'¢'¬¦ In eight years under Head Coach Todd Whitting 32 players have been drafted and of the 32, 26 were undrafted heading into their college careers at Houston.

Houston announced it will face Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Okla., on Dec. 8 during the 2018-19 season as part of a home-and-home series with the Cowboys.

Houston learned its American Athletic Conference pairings for the 2018-19 season with an announcement from league officials on Friday.

Play in The American this season will consist of a 16-game schedule with each school playing five of its 11 opponents twice, while meeting six opponents once each -- three at home and three away ÃÆ'À '¢ÃƒÆ’Æ'¢'¬¦ Houston will face reigning four-time conference champion UConn in a home-and-home series as well as UCF, USF, Temple and in-state rival SMU ÃÆ'À '¢ÃƒÆ’Æ'¢'¬¦ The Cougars will meet ECU, Tulane and Tulsa at home only, while Houston will face road only tests against Cincinnati, Memphis and Wichita State ÃÆ'À '¢ÃƒÆ’Æ'¢'¬¦ Dates and times for Houston's games in The American for the 2018-19 season will be released at a different date.

Houston legend Elmo Wright was named to the 2019 ballot for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame, the National Football Foundation (NFF) & College Hall of Fame announced Monday.

The ballot includes 76 players and six coaches from the Football Bowl Subdivision and 100 players and 32 coaches from the divisional ranks ÃÆ'À '¢ÃƒÆ’Æ'¢'¬¦ A consensus All-American in 1970, Wright was Houston's first NFL Draft First Round selection, selected 16th overall by the Kansas City Chiefs in 1971 ÃÆ'À '¢ÃƒÆ’Æ'¢'¬¦ Wright, who was a second-team All-American in 1969 and an honorable mention All-American in 1968, still holds two NCAA records from his 1968 season -- most TD receptions of 50 yards or more in a season with eight and highest average per touchdown catch in a season with an average of 56.1 yards per score ÃÆ'À '¢ÃƒÆ’Æ'¢'¬¦ A high performer on and off the field, Wright earned Academic All-America honors in 1969, and in an era that Houston was one of the nation's leaders in rushing, managed to make his mark in the air ÃÆ'À '¢ÃƒÆ’Æ'¢'¬¦ To this day, he still owns five Houston records -- all-purpose career average yards per play (21.0), yards per reception in a season (27.9 in 1968), yards per reception in a career (21.9), 200-yard receiving games in a season (2 each in 1968 and 1969) and 200-yard receiving games in a career (4) ÃÆ'À '¢ÃƒÆ’Æ'¢'¬¦ In three years of competition with the Cougars, Wright finished his career with 153 receptions for 3,347 yards and 34 touchdowns ÃÆ'À '¢ÃƒÆ’Æ'¢'¬¦ His 34 touchdown receptions rank second in Houston history while his 3,347 yards rank fourth ÃÆ'À '¢ÃƒÆ’Æ'¢'¬¦ He also ranks second in UH history with 15 career 100-yard receiving games and is one of only three players in Houston history to record multiple 1,000-yard receiving seasons, the only player to do it in a three-year career ÃÆ'À '¢ÃƒÆ’Æ'¢'¬¦ The announcement of the 2019 Class will be made Monday, Jan. 7, 2019, in Santa Clara, Calif.
