O'Quinn Field Set to Host Texans-Cowboys Scrimmage
May 10, 2002
University of Houston Director of Athletics Dave Maggard announced today that the Cougar Athletic Department has agreed to play host to a Houston Texans-Dallas Cowboys scrimmage on August 2, at John O'Quinn Field at Robertson Stadium. The scrimmage is slated to begin at 7 pm. Maggard also announced the UH Athletic Department will distribute 200 tickets to the scrimmage to Third Ward children to watch the two NFL teams square off.
"This is a win-win situation for all parties involved," commented Maggard. "We are happy to provide our facility to accommodate the Texans, and this is an opportunity for us to provide tickets to the underprivileged kids that surround the UH community and live in the Third Ward."
Both owners for the two franchises agree this will be an event the entire Houston community can enjoy.
"We are excited to be working in partnership with the University of Houston to bring this exciting event to our community," said Houston Texans Chairman and CEO Bob McNair. "Our scrimmage with the Dallas Cowboys will allow thousands of Houston area football fans the opportunity to see our team in action in an up close and personal environment. Ticket prices for the scrimmage will be reasonable so that this event is accessible to a broad cross section of our community."
"We are excited about the prospect of taking the field, for the first time, with the Houston Texans," said Dallas Cowboys? Owner and General Manager Jerry Jones. "Our organization knows, from several successful experiences in the past, that preseason scrimmages can create many of the unique elements that NFL fans expect from a game day experience. I know that the Cowboys and Texans will put on a good show, and with so many players fighting for roster spots and playing time, the action on the field will be intense and meaningful."
Information regarding ticket availability for the scrimmage will be release in the near future.
