In December 2017, the University of Houston Football program practiced for the first time in their new indoor home, the Indoor Practice Facility.
Designed by PBK and AECOM, the Indoor Practice Facility is located on the northwest corner of TDECU Stadium at the corner of Scott Street and Holman Street on the UH campus. Construction on the $20 million facility began following the conclusion of the 2016 football season.
Harvey Builders was the construction manager on the facility that includes a full 120-yard football field with hanging goalposts as its central feature with a 30-yard side field to allow for additional work while the main field is in use. The facility also includes a remote-controlled camera system in lieu of camera lifts and/or additional cat walks along with an interior speaker system and video board on the 50-yard line of the west side of the facility.
The 100,000 square-foot facility provides a climate-controlled environment that the Houston Football student-athletes need to excel throughout the season in all areas. The space also serves as a premium climate-controlled, indoor tailgating area for Houston Fans on Saturday home games called the RedZone. RedZone pass holders will enjoy access to a variety of exclusive food menu options along with liquor, wine and a large selection of beer options along with non-alcoholic drinks available for purchase by fans of age. A variety of entertainment options will also be available in the RedZone including live music, interactive games and activities for all ages.
Prior to the construction of the Indoor Practice Facility, the Houston Football program was required to rent buses and travel to the NRG Stadium Complex to practice in the Houston Texans bubble, if available, when faced with inclement weather.
