Cougars finish ranked for the first time since 2021
HOUSTON – Following a six-win improvement, its third-best single-season turnaround in program history, Houston Football concluded the 2025 season ranked #22 in the final AP Poll and #19 in the Coaches Poll on Tuesday for its first final poll ranking since 2021.
Houston tied for the best single-season turnaround among Power 4 conference teams, winning six more games in 2025 than a year ago. Houston beat Baylor and LSU to wrap up the season and was ranked in the AP Poll for the first time in the last four polls. The Cougars 10-win season marked their first since 2021 and 10th in program history.
Houston's 10-3 record is the best record in the last three years by a former American Athletic Conference school that is now in the Big 12 Conference. The Cougars finished the regular season in fourth place in the Big 12 with a 6-3 record.
Houston orchestrated the turnaround behind George Munger Coach of the Year Semifinalist Head Coach Willie Fritz who led the Cougars to its best record since 2021.
