Houston sets record with six consecutive semesters with a 3.0 department GPA
HOUSTON – University of Houston Athletics student-athletes continue to raise the bar academically, proving that our student-athletes are learning and growing while competing at the highest levels.
During the Fall 2025 semester, 69.4% of Houston student-athletes earned a 3.0 GPA or higher, while the department recorded its sixth consecutive semester with a 3.0 or better overall term GPA. This remarkable streak marked the longest run of academic excellence for the department since at least 1996.

Program-specific academic accomplishments were equally impressive. Baseball, Women's Golf, Tennis, Men's and Women's Track and Field, and Volleyball each recorded their highest term and cumulative GPAs in program history. Men's Basketball and Football reached new academic milestones, posting the highest cumulative GPAs in their respective program histories.
Individually, 15 Cougars earned their degrees during the Fall 2025 term and 25 student-athletes posted perfect 4.0 GPAs.
