Mason joins Cougars with proven track record in fundraising after stops at Central Missouri, Southern Miss.
HOUSTON – Jeff Mason, most recently the Associate Athletic Director for Revenue Generation at Southern Mississippi, has joined the University of Houston Athletics Cougar Pride office as Associate Athletics Director for Development, Senior Associate Athletics Director for Development Alvin Franklin announced Monday. In his role, he will oversee all development efforts for Houston Athletics' Annual Fund.
"My family and I are thrilled to join the Houston Cougars at such an exciting time," Mason said. "I'm grateful to Mr. Nuñez and Mr. Franklin for the opportunity to bring my experience to the Cougar Pride team and continue the great work of elevating our student-athletes, coaches, and the department as a whole through our fundraising efforts."
Mason arrives in Houston after a year at Southern Miss where he was in charge of the department's annual fund and ticketing teams. He worked directly with all external units for the Golden Eagles and aided revenue generating efforts across digital marketing, events, parking, and others.
"I am proud to welcome Jeff and his family to Houston," Senior Associate Athletics Director for Development Alvin Franklin said. "Jeff brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our staff. We ran a national search to fill this key position and his execution of revenue initiatives throughout his career stood out in the search process. He will have a major impact on enhancing the experience around our premium areas and growing our membership base."
In Hattiesburg, Miss., Mason oversaw a significant increase to the Southern Miss Football Touchdown Club revenue while posting the program's second consecutive season of sellout status and nearly eliminating the quantity of standalone tickets in the team's East Club area through new programs with existing donors. For the Golden Eagles Baseball team, he again managed an increase in ticketing revenue coupled with the team's third consecutive year of season-ticket sellouts.
Mason got his start in collegiate athletics and spent seven years at Central Missouri. Starting as a development officer in Aug. 2017, he spent the next two years leading the efforts for a $3 million James R. Crane Stadium Expansion Project while also acting as the primary contact for transitioning the department to new platforms and researching best practices for annual fund development across 125 NCAA Division II schools.
In May 2019, he was promoted to assistant athletics director for fundraising, remaining in the role until June 2021 when he was promoted to assistant athletics director for revenue generation. He acted as the department's lead fundraiser, managing giving for $6 million in capital projects while also surpassing multiple fundraising goals at Central Missouri.
He pushed the Central Missouri department to a four-year high in ticket revenue across nine sports and maintained a 100-percent renewal rate for football suites.
In his final role in Warrensburg, Mo., from Aug. 2023-May 2024, he worked as the associate athletics director for external operations, managing all outward-facing units and serving as sport administrator for volleyball and women's and men's golf.
Mason graduated from Central Missouri with a master's degree in Kinesiology and Sport Management in 2015 and his bachelor's degree in business administration in 2013. He moves to Houston with his wife, Jordan, and son, Wyatt.
