Glawe Leads Houston Men’s Golf at NCAA Urbana Regional

Senior fires 2-under 69 in Second Round to rise in individual standings

Starting his day off No. 10 on the 7,533-yard, par-71 course, Glawe ran into trouble early with bogeys on each of his first two holes.
Fortunately, the St. Leon-Rot, Germany, native rebounded quickly with four birdies in a six-hole stretch, including back-to-back efforts on Nos. 14-15.
Glawe added two more birdies on his second nine to rise 23 places in the individual standings into a tie for 24th with a two-day score of 143.
As a team, #38 Houston stood in 12th with a total of 585.
Junior Hudson Weibel was tied for 42nd at 146 while sophomore Chi Chun Chen and senior Laurenz Schiergen were tied for 55th at 149. Senior Jacob Borow was tied for 70th at 153.
Host and #14 Illinois held the team lead with a score of 558 to finish three shots ahead of #2 Oklahoma State and #35 UNLV. #23 Texas Tech (566) and Troy (567) rounded out the Top-Five leaders with #47 Marquette (572), #10 North Carolina (577), Illinois State (578), Pacific (578) and #26 Long Beach State (580) rounding out the Top 10.
UNLV's Caden Fioroni stood atop the individual leaderboard at 7-under 135 to finish one stroke ahead of Jackson Buchanan (Illinois) and Ryan Ford (Cincinnati). Jake Springer (Troy), Calum Scott (Texas Tech), Ryan Vools (Illinois) and Hunter Thompson (Michigan) were tied for fourth.
The tournament concludes with the Final Round on Wednesday.
The top five teams and top individual not on a qualifying team at each NCAA Regional advance to the NCAA Championships set for Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif., on May 24-29.

For Wednesday's Final Round, Houston will compete in groups with student-athletes from Wright State and Long Beach State off the No. 10 tee at 9:50 a.m.
Borow begins the tournament at 9:28 a.m., Wednesday, with Chun (9:39 a.m.), Schiergen (9:50 a.m.), Weibel (10:01 a.m.) and Glawe (10:12 a.m.) following.

NCAA REGIONAL HISTORY
With this season's selection, Houston Men's Golf will compete as a team in 25 NCAA Regionals during the program's rich history with nine Top-Five team finishes.
This marks the fifth straight season in which Houston will play as a team at an NCAA Regional.
It also marks the 11th NCAA Regional in which the Cougars will compete under Director of Golf Jonathan Dismuke, who is in his 16th season at Houston.
Houston captured the team championship at the 1998 NCAA Central Regional at Oak Hills Country Club in San Antonio, Texas while four Cougars – Michael Perras, 2016 NCAA Franklin Regional; Blair Hamilton, 2016 NCAA Lubbock Regional; Brett Callas, 2003 NCAA Central Regional; and Dean Larsson, 1994 NCAA Central Regional – earned medalist honors at their respective events.
A year ago, the Cougars finished sixth at the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional at University Club, falling only three strokes shy of advancing to the NCAA Championships. All-American and Big 12 Player of the. Year Santiago De La Fuente finished 14th with a score of even-par 216 to lead Houston.
