
Two Houston Relay Teams Advance to Finals at Penn Relays

Men’s 4x100 and 4x400-meter relays to compete for titles on Saturday
PHILADELPHIA and AUSTIN, Texas – The University of Houston Track & Field program placed third in the men's 4x200-meter relay and advanced two other relay squads to the finals at Penn Relays while also recording an individual second-place finish at the Texas Invitational on Friday.
PENN RELAYS
The men's 4x100-meter relay of freshman Germain Smith-Mata, sophomore Cayden Broadnax, junior Gerard Holmes and senior Brice Chabot qualified for the Championship of America final with a time of 39.96. The team will race at 12:53 p.m., CT, Saturday.
Senior Trey East III joined Broadnax, Holmes and Chabot in the men's 4x200-meter relay final, where the Cougars placed third in 1:22.41.
The freshman 4x400-meter relay squad of Damarien Jacobs, King Taylor, Jaylin Santiago and Sahfi Reed advanced to the final with a time of 3:07.11. The quartet will race for the Penn Relays wheel at 1:39 p.m., Saturday.
Smith-Mata was the lone Cougar to compete in the men's 100-meter as he posted a personal best time of 10.64.
TEXAS INVITATIONAL
The Cougars closed out action at the Texas Invitational in Austin, senior Jamar Marshall Jr. finished second in the men's 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.39, moving him to third on Houston's all-time performance list.
Seven personal bests were set in four events, highlighted by junior Kaycee McCoy's time of 13.34 performance in the women's 100-meter hurdles. Her time ranks eighth in program history.
