Cougars unveil third non-conference opponent in 2026
HOUSTON – University of Houston Football and Southern University announced on Thursday a future game agreement for the two to play on Sept. 12, 2026, inside Houston's stadium in Houston, Texas.
Houston will host Southern University on Sept. 12, 2026, at Houston's Stadium. The teams have met two times previously but have not faced off since Aug. 30, 2013, in Houston. Houston leads the series, 2-0, with wins in Houston, Texas (Reliant) (62-13; Aug. 30, 2013) and Robertson Stadium in Houston (55-3; Aug. 30, 2008).
The Cougars will begin their 2025 and second season under Head Coach Willie Fritz on Thursday, Aug. 28, at Houston's stadium against Stephen F. Austin. Non-conference play continues with a visit to Rice Stadium, in Houston on Saturday, Sept. 6, then finishes with a trip to Corvallis, Ore. to play Oregon State on Saturday, Sept. 27.
Houston has announced three of its non-conference opponents and dates ahead of the 2026 season. The Cougars will host Oregon State on Sept. 5, host Southern a week later on Sept. 12 and travel to Georgia Southern for a Sept. 26 matchup.
