
Men’s Golf Rises to Third at Big 12 Championships

Senior Wolfgang Glawe tied for individual lead at 1-under 209; Final Round tees off Thursday
TULSA, Okla. – The University of Houston Men's Golf program lowered its team score for the second straight day to surge into third following the Third Round of the Big 12 Conference Championships at Southern Hills Country Club on Wednesday afternoon.
The Cougars posted a score of 284 and rose to third with a 54-hole total of 866 on the 7,556-yard, par-70 course.
Senior Wolfgang Glawe fired a 2-under 70 in the Third Round and moved into a tie for the individual lead at 1-under 209.
Starting off No. 1, Glawe quickly moved into red numbers with a birdie on No. 2 and moved to 2-under with another birdie on the par-4 fourth hole.
The St. Leon-Rot, Germany, native overcame a bogey at No. 6 to sink two birdies in a three-hole stretch at Nos. 11-13 and drained his final birdie of the day at No. 16 to lead the Cougars.
Glawe joined Arizona State teammates Connor Williams and Josele Ballester in a tie for the lead.
Sophomore Chi Chun Chen was tied for 18th at 218 while senior Laurenz Schiergen was tied for 26th at 219. Junior Hudson Weibel was tied for 30th at 220, and sophomore Grant Doggett stood in 70th at 236.
#4 Oklahoma State held the team lead at 841 to finish the Third Round six strokes ahead of #5 Arizona State. TCU (867), Kansas State (870), #34 Colorado (873), #33 Texas Tech (874), #22 Arizona (876), Cincinnati (877) and #14 Utah (880) completed the Top 10 leaders.
Oklahoma State teammates Preston Stout and Eric Lee joined TCU's Joe Pagdin in a tie for fourth at even-par 210.
The tournament wraps up with the Final Round on Thursday morning. The winner of the league's annual postseason event earns an automatic bid to NCAA Regional play on May 12-14.

For Thursday's Final Round, Houston will compete in groups with student-athletes from Oklahoma State, Arizona State and TCU, beginning off No. 1 at 8 a.m.
Doggett begins the day at 8 a.m., Thursday, with Weibel (8:12 a.m.), Schiergen (8:24 a.m.), Chen (8:36 a.m.) and Glawe (8:48 a.m.) following.

CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS HISTORY
Houston owns a rich history at conference championships with 21 team titles and 22 individual crowns.
In 2023, the Cougars swept the team and individual titles at Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Fla., during the American Athletic Conference Championships in their final year in the league.
As a team, Houston finished with a total of 831 to win by 12 strokes over Cincinnati. All-American Santiago De La Fuente posted a score of 16-under 200 to earn medalist honors and finish three shots ahead of teammate Austyn Reily.
A year ago, the Cougars tied for sixth at Whispering Pines Golf Club with a score of 1,159. All-American Santiago De La Fuente posted a total of 7-under 281 with four straight sub-par rounds to tie for fourth at 7-under 281.
