Mita Wins High Jump at Texas Relays

Antrea Mita collects first outdoor victory, Cougars win seven events on Saturday
HOUSTON and AUSTIN, Texas – Sophomore Antrea Mita won the men's high jump at the Texas Relays while the University of Houston Track & Field program collected seven victories at the Victor Lopez Invitational on Saturday.

TEXAS RELAYS
Mita made his outdoor season debut with a victory in the men's high jump with an outdoor personal best mark of 2.21m. Senior My'Kell Beck claimed third place with his clearance at 2.16m.

Senior John Adesola was third to cross the finish line with a personal best time of 13.45 in the men's 110-meter hurdles. Adesola inked his name at the sixth spot on Houston's outdoor all-time performance list.Â

The remaining Cougars squad in Houston found success capitalized by seven victories, nine second place finishes and four third place finishes.

Freshman Tirea Reed earned her first outdoor victory in the women's discus with a mark of 50.02m.

Sophomore Kaden Edwards placed second in the men's shot put with his mark of 18.00m.

Senior Kevin Snyder won the men's long jump with a personal best mark in the long jump at 7.60m while graduate Caleb Malbrough recorded a mark of 7.20m for second. On the women's side, freshman Athena Stith won with a mark of 5.86m.

In the women's pole vault, freshman Kaylee Daniel cleared 3.74m to enter Houston's all-time outdoor performance list at No. 10. Junior Aubrey Tupper matched the height to claim third place.

Sophomore Madison Dominguez delivered an impressive performance with personal best times to earn two second-place finishes. She lowered her personal best to 1:03.28 in the 400-meter hurdles and clocked 13.96 in the 100-meter hurdles. Junior Ali Mack placed third in the 100-meter hurdles at 14.05.

The Cougars dominated the men's 110-meter hurdles with senior Tyler Graves leading the sweep in 14.36. Sophomore Gerardo Mejia and freshman Noah Hanson followed closely, finishing in 14.50 and 14.52, respectively. Graves posted a second place finish in the men's 400-meter hurdles at 51.92.

Freshman Darius Rodgers finished second in the men's 100-meter dash as he crossed the finish line at 10.65.
In the men's 400m, freshman Jaylin Santiago claimed the victory with a time of 47.05 while sophomore Joshua Sims-Waddy set a personal best, finishing just 0.01 seconds behind at 47.06. On the women's side, sophomore Michaela Mouton claimed third place at 55.11.
The Cougars swept the men's and women's 4x400-meter relays. The men clocked 3:12.04 for first place and the women secured the victory at 3:48.16.Â

TOM TELLEZ STATUE UNVEILING AND TRIBUTE DINNER
Former Houston Track & Field Coach Tom Tellez will be honored with a statue and garden located at the Carl Lewis International Complex. Tellez coached the Cougars from 1976 until his retirement in 1998.Â

The statue will be unveiled on Friday, April 4 at 6:15 p.m., with a dinner to follow from 6:30-9 p.m., in the Great Hall located inside the Athletics Alumni Center. Individual tickets start at $50 or two tickets can be purchased for $90 by clicking here.
