Swimming & Diving Falls to #20 Texas A&M

Cougars collect five victories, five Top 10 times on Thursday
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Swimming & Diving team fell short in its first dual meet of the season against #20 Texas A&M, 166-133 inside CRWC Natatorium on Thursday.
The Cougars landed five first place finishes and six new Top 10 times against the Aggies.
Freshman Emma Overall (9:59.16) scored first in the 1000-yard freestyle with sophomore Mariana Cote right behind in second (9:59.45). Their marks earned them third and fifth on the Top 10 list, respectively.
Junior Evelyn Entrekin, sophomore Elizabeth Benoit, senior Virag Peter and senior Liya Goupil also topped the charts in their respective events.
Entrekin finished the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:00.50. Benoit won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:51.71. Peter led the way in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:12.20 and Goupil made moves in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 50.19.
Sophomore Alexia Duncan earned second in the 100-yard backstroke (53.68) and third in the 200-yard backstroke (1:57.69). Duncan added her name to the Top Ten list, penciling sixth in the 100-yard backstroke and ninth in the 200-yard backstroke.
In the diving events, freshman diver Maisy Woloszyn and sophomore Caroline Roelen both scored their first zone cuts of the season. Woloszyn finished fourth in the 1-meter springboard (270.90) and Roelen placed fifth in the 3-meter springboard (287.25).
UP NEXT
Houston will take its first road trip of the season to Baton Rouge, La., for a quad-meet against LSU, Rice and Tulane at the LSU Natatorium on Saturday, Nov. 8 at Noon.
Following their trip to Louisiana, the Cougars will host their annual Phill Hansel Invitational at CRWC Natatorium from Nov. 19-21.
