
Svedenskiöld Leads Women’s Golf at Landfall Tradition

Junior tied for fifth with 2-under 70; Cougars tied for seventh entering Saturday’s Second Round
WILMINGTON, N.C. – University of Houston Women's Golf senior Moa Svedenskiöld drained three birdies and added an eagle to lead the Cougars and finish the First Round of the Landfall Tradition with a 2-under 70 on Friday afternoon.
Starting off No. 10 on the 6,109-yard, par-72 Pete Dye Course at the Country Club of Landfall, Svedenskiöld sank a birdie on her first hole and overcame a bogey at No. 13 with two birdies in a three-hole stretch to cap her first nine.
The Halmstad, Sweden, native added the team's eagle on the 485-yard, par-5 sixth and was tied with Kentucky teammates C.A. Carter and Karlie Campbell, North Carolina teammates Megan Streicher and Ing Iadpluem, Morgan Ketchum (Wake Forest), Vairana Heck (South Carolina) and Molly Smith (UCF).
As a team, the Cougars finished the First Round with a score of 290 and joined Wake Forest in a tie for seventh.
Junior Maelynn Kim posted an even-par 72 and was tied for 21st. The Katy, Texas, native overcame a slow start which saw her endure bogeys on two of her first five holes.
Senior Alexa Saldaña was tied for 29th at 73 while junior Ellen Yates and senior Natalie Saint Germain were tied for 47th at 75.
Madison Dabagla (Indiana), Surapa Janthamunee (Maryland), Veronika Kedronova (Kent State) and Maylis Lamoure (South Carolina) were tied for the individual lead with 69s.
SMU held the team lead with a score of 287 to finish the First Round one stroke in front of North Carolina and Kentucky. UCF (289), South Carolina (289) and Indiana (289) were tied for fourth with host UNCW (294), Virginia Tech (295), Duke (295), NC State (295) and Alabama (295) completing the Top 10.
Schools begin the Second Round with a 7:30 a.m. (CDT), split-tee start on Saturday. The Final Round tees off with a 7:45 a.m. (CDT) split-tee start Sunday.
The event is free and open to all fans. Spectators should use the Eastwood Road entrance to Landfall.
The Landfall Tradition will be the final team event for the Cougars during the fall season. Houston will send three individuals to compete at The Bear Brawl at Ridgewood Country Club in Waco, Texas, on Tuesday, in a recent addition to the program's schedule.

Following the winter break, Houston returns to action to begin its spring season at the Collegiate Individual at Guadalajara Country Club in Guadalajara, Mexico, on Jan. 30-31.
