Fifty-Two Cougars Named to Spring Academic All-Big 12 Team

Baseball, Golf, Softball, Tennis, Track and Field celebrated for classroom successes
HOUSTON – University of Houston Athletics was well represented with the announcement of the 2024 Spring Academic All-Big 12 Conference Team, featuring 52 Cougar student-athletes, the league office unveiled Tuesday. For a full list of the nominees, click here.
The team recognizes academic accomplishments of student-athletes participating in spring sports. Houston teams represented included baseball, men's golf, women's golf, tennis and men's and women's track and field.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
Houston Men's Golf led all Big 12 competitors with eight representatives. Cougar sport programs totaled an impressive 41 First Team members, recognizing student-athletes who maintained a 3.20 GPA or better including nine Women's Track and Field representatives, eight Baseball student-athletes, seven Men's Golfers, six Tennis standouts, four Women's Golfers, four Softball representatives and three Men's Track and Field student-athletes.
The Cougars boasted 11 Second Team members who maintained a 3.0-3.19 GPA led by three Men's Track and Field representatives. Two Cougar Baseball student-athletes and two Softball student-athletes were also spotlighted. Men's and Women's Golf and Tennis each had one honoree.
Houston student-athletes excelled in the classroom during the Spring 2024 semester with 10 programs achieving a term grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher on the way to a 3.17 term GPA overall as a department.
More than 200 Cougars notched a term GPA of 3.0 or higher with 56 student-athletes graduating in the spring. Women's Cross Country led the charge, posting a 3.77 term GPA, for the highest of any program during the 2023-24 academic year.
In the fall, 100 student-athletes were recognized on the Dean's List, achieving a GPA of 3.5 or higher. In the spring, 106 Cougars received that honor for a total of 206 student-athletes for the academic year.
