Football Shines in Classroom During Spring Semester

Forty-nine Cougars post 3.0+ GPAs to lead year-over-year academic surge
HOUSTON – University of Houston Football boasted 49 student-athletes with a 3.0+ GPA as the program raised its term GPA year over year by nearly 15% this spring during the first semester under Head Coach Willie Fritz.
Houston Football student-athletes passed 93.5% of 1,426 enrolled spring hours compared to 89.17% during spring 2023. The Cougars were led by 10 graduates including 2024 returners Jack Martin, Jacob Garza, Donovan Smith, Anthony Gangi and Peyton Dunn.
"I'm extremely proud of our student-athletes for their hard work and commitment in the classroom this spring," Fritz said. "[Assistant Athletics Director for Academic Services] Tatjana Banjeglav and [Assistant Director for Academic Services] Matt Reese did an outstanding job preparing and supporting our players as did our entire academics support staff including tutors."
Seven student-athletes earned Dean's List honors for boasting a 3.5 GPA or higher including returners Gangi, Joseph Kim, Demetrius Hunter, Dylan Caddle, Steve Polk, Pierson Parent and Jacob Garza.
