Maswanganyi Named Big 12 Conference Outdoor Performer of the Year

Shaun Maswanganyi picks up league honor after successful weekend at the Big 12 Championship
HOUSTON – University of Houston Track & Field senior sprinter Shaun Maswanganyi was named the 2024 Big 12 Conference Men's Outdoor Performer of the Year, the league office 
announced Thursday.
This award marks Maswanganyi's first Big 12 honor and sixth career outdoor conference honor, as he earned five during his time in the AAC. Maswanganyi was named the 2021 Freshman of the Year, 2022 and 2023 Most Valuable Performer and picked up Most Outstanding Performance in 2021 and 2023.
Maswanganyi, the Big 12 Conference High Point Performer of the Meet, won all three events he competed in at the Big 12 Outdoor Championship on Saturday, scoring 22.5 points.
The senior won his first Big 12 title of the day as he ran the anchor leg of the men's 4x100-meter relay. The relay team set a facility record of 38.44 and is tied for the second-fastest time in the nation.
Due to weather, the 100-meter dash turned into a timed final and Maswanganyi had no trouble with that. The 12-time All-American sprinted to the finish line at 10.11 for his first Big 12 individual title.
The Johannesburg, South Africa, native's success continued as he won his fourth 200-meter conference title of his career with a time of 20.10. This mark met the Olympic qualifying standard time.
Maswanganyi also found success earlier in the season, running a season-best 10.02 to win the 100-meter dash at the 96th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. In April, Maswanganyi won the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.12 to win the event at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational
