Senior Santiago De La Fuente finishes 14th at even-par 216 to lead Cougars

Needing to finish among the Top Five following the Final Round to advance to the NCAA Championships later this month, Houston rallied late with super senior Austyn Reily and senior Santiago De La Fuente each draining birdies on the par-5 17th hole to pull Houston to within a stroke.
Unfortunately, that would be as close as the Cougars would move on the 7,401-yard, par-72 course. Playing as the No. 9 seed, Houston finished the Final Round with a score of 3-under 285, its lowest team total of the Regional.
De La Fuente recorded four birdies in his Final Round and finished 14th with a 54-hole score of even-par 216. It was his team-leading seventh Top-20 showing of the season and his sixth straight.
Auburn captured the team championship with a score of 843. Virginia (851), Texas Tech (856), Ohio State (864) and host LSU (868) rounded out the Top Five teams and advanced to the NCAA Championships at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif., on May 24-29.
Duke's Ethan Evans tied for second at 6-under 210 and earned the invitation to the NCAA Championships as the highest individual not from a Top-Five team.
Duke (873), South Carolina (875), Oregon (883) and Louisville (885) rounded out the Top 10 teams.
Junior Jacob Borow posted the Cougars' low round of the day with a 70 and tied for 35th at 222. The Lake Jackson, Texas, native posted three birdies with only one bogey in the Final Round.
Junior Wolfgang Glawe finished with a 71 Wednesday and tied for 23rd at 219. Making his NCAA postseason debut, freshman Grant Doggett tied for 45th at 225.
This marked the 10th NCAA Regional in which the Cougars will compete under Director of Golf Jonathan Dismuke, who is in his 15th season at Houston.
