Beckford Named Big 12 Conference Indoor Performer of the Year

Kelly Ann-Beckford picks up league honor after successful weekend at the Big 12 Championship
HOUSTON – University of Houston Track & Field graduate distance star Kelly-Ann Beckford was named the 2024 Big 12 Conference Women's Indoor Performer of the Year, the league office announced Thursday.

Beckford claimed the 800-meter Big 12 Championship title, setting several records on Saturday to solidify her spot in the NCAA Track & Field Indoor Championships. Beckford posted a 2:00.65 in the event to rank third in the nation, breaking her previous school record. In addition to the school record, she set both Big 12 meet and facility records in Lubbock, Texas.
Beckford also ran in the 4x400-meter relay that qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships. The team of graduate Sydni Townsend, senior Iman Babineaux, freshman Michaela Mouton and Beckford ran the 11th fastest time in the nation at 3:29.86. Their time set a school record and gave them the title at the Big 12 Indoor Championship.
Earlier in the season, Beckford ran a 2:07.09 to take first place at the Ted Nelson Invitational on Jan. 20 in College Station, Texas. The Trelawny, Jamaica, native followed up with another first-place finish at the Robert Platt Invitational on Jan. 27, where she ran at 2:04.59, setting both a meet and Yeoman Fieldhouse records.
