Women’s Golf Set to Host The Chevron Collegiate

Cougars welcome 17-team field to Golf Club of Houston starting Monday morning
HUMBLE, Texas – The University of Houston Women's Golf program returns home to play host to The Chevron Collegiate at Golf Club of Houston.The two-day, 54-hole tournament begins at 8 a.m., Monday with 36 holes with the Final Round teeing off at 8 a.m., Tuesday. Admission is free each day, and all fans are invited to attend.
This will be the Cougars' second spring tournament of the season, Houston tied for sixth at the Nexus Collegiate at Albany Golf Club in Nassau, Bahamas, on Feb. 12-14.

Chevron recently joined as the tournament's title sponsor.
Chevron is a proud sponsor of The Chevron Championship, one of the LGPA's annual major championships played at The Club at Carlton Woods in The Woodlands, Texas.
As part of Chevron's commitment to the Cougars' home tournament, the individual champion of The Chevron Collegiate will be presented with a place in The Chevron Championship Pro-Am and an invitation to its pairings party.
Chevron Vice President of Renewables Nuray Elci will be a guest speaker at a team dinner for all squads, coaches and student-athletes following the first two rounds on Feb. 26.

MEET the COUGARSUnder the direction of Carolyn Macow Leatherwood Head Coach Lydia Gumm, the Cougars will be represented by senior Nicole Abelar, freshman Maelynn Kim, sophomore Alexa Saldana, sophomore Moa Svedenskiold and junior Hyeonji Kang.
Junior Brooke Morales, junior Anna Economon, freshman Ellen Yates and sophomore Natalie Saint Germain will compete as individuals.
This season, Saldana leads the Cougars with a 70.50 scoring average and earned a pair of Top-20 finishes, including a 17th-place showing at the Schooner Fall Classic at Belmar Golf Club in Norman, Okla., on Sept. 23-25, 2023.
Svedenskiold is second on the team with a 70.67 average and has posted par or lower in 12 of the 15 total rounds in which she has played. The 2023 All-Conference performer posted three straight Top-10 finishes to end the fall season with a sixth-place finish at the Illini Invitational at Medinah on Oct. 9-10, 2023.
Competing in her first collegiate season, Kim has led the Cougars in each of the last two tournaments, including a ninth-place finish – thanks to three straight sub-par rounds – at the Jim West Challenge at Kissing Tree Golf Club in San Marcos, Texas, on Oct. 20-22, 2023.
TEAM FIELD
Houston will compete in a 17-team field featuring Furman, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa State, Maryland, North Texas, Oklahoma State, SMU, TCU, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Texas State, Texas Tech, Tulsa, UNLV and UTSA.
TEE TIMESMonday's First Round begins with an 8 a.m., split- tee start. Abelar begins the day for the Cougars in the first group off No. 1 with Kim (second group off No. 1), Saldana (first group off No. 2), Svedenskiold (second group off No. 2) and Kang (No. 3) following.
Morales begins the tournament in the first group off No. 17 with Economon (second group off No. 17) Yates (first group off No. 18) and Saint Germain (second group off No. 18).

Following The Chevron Collegiate, Houston tees off at The Show at Spanish Trail Country Club in Las Vegas on March 4-5.
From there, Houston continues its western road swing when it competes at the MountainView Collegiate, set for March 15-16 at MountainView Country Club in Tucson, Ariz.
