Cougars begin postseason action on Friday
WACO, Texas – The University of Houston Cross Country team is set to compete at the Big 12 Championship on Friday at the Cottonwood Creek Golf Course hosted by Baylor. The women's 6k championship race starts at 10:00 a.m., and the men's 8k championship race will follow at 11:00 a.m.
The top-15 finishers from both the men's and the women's races will be named to the All-Big 12 team.

LAST TIME OUT
The Cougars wrapped up its regular season slate at the Arturo Barrios Invitational as sophomore Aaron Crittenden led the men's 8k and freshman Cadence Patterson was the leader in the women's 6k.
The women finished 31st overall, with Patterson as the top finisher for the Cougars with a time of 21:04.1 (107th). Freshman Madelyn Hunter made her collegiate debut as she crossed the finish line second for Houston at 21:42.2 (165th), followed by freshman AnnClaire Cop at 21:43.8 (167th).
Other scorers for the Cougars included freshman Emily Pharris (21:54.0; 165th), freshman Julia Shimel (22:15.8, 196th) and freshman Lily Campos (22:21.8, 205th). Senior Eleni Kaiser was the final scorer for the Cougars as she recorded a personal best time of 22:30.1 (214th).
On the men's side, Crittenden led the Cougars for the first time in his career with a personal best time of 23:44.9 for 52nd place. Personal bests were also recorded by freshman Caden Thurman with a time of 24:16.7 (115th), sophomore Michael Archie at 24:19.9 (119th), and freshman Zade Kayyali with a mark of 24:37.1 (156th).
Freshman Remay Abraha made his collegiate debut at 24:42.4 (171st) and junior Miles Cox crossed the finish line at 24:45.9 (182nd). Sophomore Grant Sims rounded out the scoring for the men with a personal best time of 24:55.8 (209th).

In 2023, Houston competed at its first Big 12 Conference Championship, where the men placed 10th and the women finished 11th. Branch Cox took the top time for the men and Claire Meyer took the top time for the women's team at the Iowa State Cross Country Course.
