
Eight Cougars Earn Academic All-District

Houston places eight on College Sports Communicators Academic All-District list
HOUSTON – Eight University of Houston track and field student-athletes earned College Sports Communicators Track and Field/Cross Country Academic All-District on Wednesday.  Â

The eight student-athletes all have earned cumulative GPAs over 3.50 and competed in 50 percent of Houston's team competitions this year in track and field and cross country this academic year (August-May).
Â
Senior Jordan Booker, junior Zosia Bulhak, sophomores Daniela Castillo and Carlos Castillo, seniors Claire Meyer, Ryan Pickering, Brandon Seagreaves and junior Jeremiah Wilson earned a spot on the Academic All-District team. Five of the eight honorees compete in both track and field and cross country.

Booker helped win conference titles in the 400-meter relay and 1,600-meter relay in 2023 as the lead-off leg in the 400-meter relay and the anchor leg of the 1,600-meter relay. Booker was on the Dean's List nine semesters as a Cougar and graduated with a degree in Technology Leadership and Innovation.

Bulhak has posted the team's highest cumulative GPA and helped the Cougars to one of their best team finishes at the American Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships. The junior is working towards her degree in Economics and has been efficient on the track, posting personal bests in four of her last four races over four different distances in 2023.

Daniela Castillo earned her first Academic All-District honor after posting a GPA over 3.50. Daniela also posted personal records in a pair of meets in 2023 including in the 5,000 meters and 800 meters.

Carlos Castillo also earned his first Academic All-District award in 2023. Carlos ran a personal best in the 800 meters at the J Fred Duckett Twilight meet and in the 1,500 meters at the first outdoor meet of the season at the Kirk Baptiste Spring Break Invitational. Both Carlos and Daniela competed for the Cougars at the American Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships and NCAA South Central Region Championships.

Meyer had one of the greatest female cross country seasons since the turn of the century, earning All-Conference honors and All-Region honors in 2022. Meyer followed that up with a school record in the indoor 5,000 and a top three all-time mark in the outdoor 5,000. The Academic All-District award is the first of Meyer's career.

Pickering concluded her Houston career scoring points in the discus at the conference championships for the third-straight year. The Mont Belvieu, Texas native graduated in spring 2022 and is currently working on a Master of Supply Chain and Logistics with an expected graduation date of December 2023.

Seagreaves had a strong year in cross country and on the track as an All-Region honoree in cross country and ran a leg of the silver medalist distance medley relay at the indoor conference championships. The El Paso, Texas native is finishing his Masters in Entrepreneurship studies.

Wilson finished eighth in the 800 at the indoor conference championships in 2023 and posted one of the top men's GPAs on the team. The Nacogdoches, Texas native earned his first Academic All-District honor.

The 2022-23 Academic All-District Softball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the diamond and in the classroom. Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First-, second and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced June 7.
