Houston’s men’s 400-meter relay wins fourth-straight title at Penn Relays
PHILADELPHIA & AUSTIN, Texas – The Houston track and field team became the third school in Penn Relays history to win four-straight 400-meter relays as the Cougars won the relay on Saturday at Franklin Field. Juniors De'Vion Wilson and Shaun Maswanganyi also won individual titles in the 110-meter hurdles and 100-meter dash, respectively.
Houston became just the third school, and the first in 15 years, to win four-straight Championship of American 400 relay titles. The Cougars join Morgan State (1953-56) and LSU (2005-08) as the only three schools to win four titles consecutively. With its sixth title, Houston has now won the second-most 400 relay wheels at the Penn Relays.
Wilson became the first Cougar all-time to win the 110 hurdles at the Penn Relays. Wilson's 13.64 second time into a 0.5 m/s headwind won the race by 0.11 seconds.
After anchoring the 400-meter winning relay, Maswanganyi won the 100 from lane one in 10.40 seconds. The junior becomes Houston's 10th 100-meter dash winner at the Penn Relays and the first since 2019. The Cougars' 10 Penn Relays titles is the most all-time at the relays.
In the women's 1,600-meter relay, the Cougars ran a season-best time 3:37.50.
At the Texas Invitational, graduate Priscilla Adejokun finished third overall in the hammer with a throw of 59.71 meters on her last throw of finals.
Senior Christyan Sampy tied the school record for the second-straight meet, jumping 5.55 meters at the Texas Invitational. Sampy finished third overall.
Senior Lusekelo Mwamukonda improved upon his personal best in the discus by over two meters with a 52.76-meter throw. Mwamukonda finished fourth overall and ranks seventh in the American Athletic Conference following the result.
With a 15 second personal record, freshman Miles Cox finished second overall in the 5,000 meters at the Texas Invitational. Cox's time is the second-fastest by a Cougar this year.

Houston will wrap up its regular season with the Tom Tellez Invitational on Friday at the Carl Lewis International Complex before the American Athletic Conference Championships in Tampa, Fla. March 12-14.
