Women’s Golf Tabbed for NCAA Regional Play

Cougars to compete as No. 7 seed at NCAA Pullman Regional at Palouse Ridge Golf Club on May 8-10
HOUSTON – For the seventh time in school history, the University of Houston Women's Golf program will compete as a team in NCAA postseason play after being selected as the No. 7 seed at the NCAA Pullman Regional.
The 37th-ranked Cougars will compete as the No. 7 seed at Palouse Ridge Golf Club on May 8-10. Houston will be joined by No. 1 seed Stanford, No. 2 seed Baylor, No. 3 seed USC, No. 4 seed Clemson, No. 5 seed Kentucky, No. 6 seed Texas Tech, No. 8 seed North Carolina, No. 9 seed UNLV, No. 10 seed, Sacramento State, No. 11 seed Cal Poly and No. 12 seed Green Bay.
Camille Boyd (Washington), Tiffany Le (UC Riverside), Harriet Lynch (Fresno State), Darcy Habgood (Washington State), Stefanie Deng (Washington) and Cassie Kim (Gonzaga) will compete as individuals for their schools at the NCAA Pullman Regional.
The top five teams and top two student-athletes (not on an advancing team) at each of the six NCAA Regional sites advance to the NCAA Championships to be played at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz., on May 19-24.
The Cougars watched Tuesday's NCAA Selection Show on Golf Channel as a team inside the Dave Williams Facility at Golf Club of Houston with fans and administrators.
Houston is one of 72 teams and 36 individuals not on those teams competing in NCAA Regional play at six sites across the nation.
Other NCAA Regionals will be held at University of Georgia Golf Course (Athens, Ga.); PGA National Resort (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.); Lonnie Poole Golf Course (Raleigh, N.C.); TPC San Antonio (San Antonio, Texas) and The Club at Chatham Hills (Westfield, Ind.).
ABOUT the COUGARS
Under the leadership of Carolyn Macow Leatherwood Head Coach Lydia Gumm, the Cougars stand at #37 in the latest Golfstat rankings while freshman Moa Svedenskiold (#81), freshman Natalie Saint Germain (#176) and junior Nicole Abelar (#195) rank among the nation's top student-athletes.
This season, Houston has posted six Top-Four team finishes, including a second-place showing at the Trinity Forest Invitational in Dallas on March 6-7.
Svedenskiold leads the Cougars with a 71.63 scoring average and 19 rounds of par or better. The Halmstad, Sweden, native became the first Cougar to win an individual title at the Jim West Challenge on Oct. 23-24, 2022, and, most recently, finished second at The American Championships at Southern Hills Plantation Club on April 17-19.
Earlier this week, the Halmstad, Sweden, native was named to the All-American Athletic Conference Team for the first time in her collegiate career.
Freshman Natalie Saint Germain set a school record with a 64 in the Final Round of the Schooner Fall Class at Belmar Golf Club on Sept. 24-26, 2022.
Junior Nicole Abelar stands second on the team with a 72.56 scoring average and is third with 11 rounds of par or better. The Manila native has emerged in the second half of the season, posting four straight Top-20 finishes entering the NCAA Pullman Regional.
NCAA REGIONAL HISTORY
This marks the eighth consecutive season in which Houston was represented in NCAA Regional play.
Houston has been represented in each of the seven NCAA Regionals with team appearances from 2015 to 2021.
A year ago, super senior Annie Kim qualified for the NCAA Franklin Regional at Vanderbilt Legends Club as an individual qualifier.
Houston will make its first appearance as a team in NCAA postseason play since 2019. The 2020 NCAA postseason was canceled due to the COVID pandemic while rain forced the cancellation of the 2021 NCAA Baton Rouge Regional.
